As we grow older, we need, more than ever, the fellowship and encouragement of like-minded pilgrims. Many things have changed since our founding in 1807 but the need for Christian care for older Christians is becoming more, not less. As our secular society becomes increasingly cold and hostile to Christianity, the need for spiritual support in old age is greater than ever. Without the encouragement and support of our members we would not be able to care for our older brothers and sisters in Christ in the way that we do.
Take for example, Freddy. He suffered with a degenerative illness and hadn’t been able to go to a Bible Study for years – until he came into one of our homes, where they are held regularly.
A former pastor (let’s call him Reg), who had been housebound and increasingly isolated began to blossom again in our care home, where he often leads devotions. He is an encouragement to residents and staff alike.
Ben, a former missionary and surgeon, found another ministry in sheltered housing where he led many Bible studies and discussion. ‘Nothing on earth is as good as being in heaven,’ said one 99 year old resident, ‘but living here is the next best thing.’
Margaret, a lady in the early stages of dementia had become severely withdrawn in a secular care home, but after moving to a Pilgrim Home, responded to the loving Christian ethos and began to talk again.
What do our members do? Some become Home Visitors, visiting and befriending residents. Many join Auxiliary groups that hold fundraising events and publicize Pilgrim Homes in their regions. Some start their own Auxiliary group - and if you feel you can do that we would be delighted! But the most important thing they do is pray. We send regular newsletters which include specific points of prayer.
Our members are priceless, so we have removed the joining fee and made membership completely free of charge. It was never a huge amount, anyway – only £15.00 per year for a single person (£7.50 for pensioners), and £22.50 for a married couple (£11.25 for pensioners.) Now it won’t cost you a penny.
All you have to do is fill in the application form, agree with our doctrinal basis, sign the form and send it off to us. We would love to have you on board! To become a member online then click here to go to the application form.
Many like to make donations from time to time, and you will be pleased to know that if you pay income tax or capital gains tax, we can claim 25% from Inland Revenue under the Gift Aid scheme at no cost to you. This is a great help, so if you are able to do this please complete the enclosed Gift Aid declaration form and return it to us. It’s thanks to faithful giving that we can help people like Freddie, Reg, Ben and Margaret, and so many others.
You will get special discounts on our publications and conferences, and you’ll receive our Magazine and newsletters and invitations to special meetings. You be joining a long line of believers over the years who share our ministry of caring for our precious older brothers and sisters in Christ.
