Trusting in the Lord for 49 years

Koinonia, our care home in Worthing, held a special thanksgiving celebration this October

The event took place on Saturday 10th October with friends, relatives and colleagues joining our ‘family members’ (those who live with us) for a time of worship, prayer, praise and thanksgiving to mark the home’s 49th anniversary.

Ahead of the celebration, our family members were busy with scissors and glue to create a Bible verse banner to be proudly displayed on the day. The banner reads ‘Trust in the Lord’, taken from Proverbs 3:5, and was chosen as a reminder of the Lord’s care and provision at Koinonia over the last 49 years. Speaking at the event was Rev Rich Owen from Worthing Tabernacle.

Carwyn Willis, Business Manager at the home, said, “'We are so thankful to God for 49 years of Koinonia operating as a care home on the south coast in Worthing. It is such an encouragement that something that started with just a few people has been able to grow into a warm, welcoming home which is supporting our older brothers and sisters in Christ to live fulfilled later lives. It was a service which was filled with thanksgiving, memories and prayers for how God can use this home for many more years to come.”

Koinonia Christian Care Home is a 38-bed home in Worthing, West Sussex.

We offer residential care for older people and can provide respite care to those who need it and we are able to offer care at the end of life.

The home is spread out over five interlinked houses. The fifth house, Gwynne House, specialises in the care of residents with dementia. The majority of rooms have lift access and all rooms are en-suite (toilet and washbasin). All rooms are single and furnished but residents can bring some of their own furniture if they wish. Residents can provide their own television and there is an aerial point in each room. External telephone lines can be connected at resident’s own cost and there is free wifi throughout the home.

There are four lounges across the five houses. The main lounge (a sun lounge attached to the dining area) and the front lounge are the areas most used by residents. There is a small private lounge area which is often used for visiting, quiet times and prayer meetings, and a fourth lounge in Gwynne House which is mainly used by the residents of Gwynne House. Each lounge has access to a large screen television.
