Matt Kisler brings us up to date with progress on the Middlefields House building.

There is much to be thankful to God for in the way that the building of Middlefields House has progressed since the Breaking Ground ceremony on a very wet day in February.

The inescapable news story around the world has been the Covid-19 pandemic but the effect on the project has been mercifully small. The contractors have been able to continue working on site while observing the necessary infection-control measures and the supply of materials has been largely uninterrupted. The main contractors, Midas Construction, have done an excellent job in maintaining progress and working around supply schedules.

During October and November, the main works taking place on the outside of the building are the roofing and the windows. It is planned that by mid-December the building will be fully weathertight.

Increasingly, work will move inside the building with the plumbing, heating and electrical installations progressing through the “first fix” stage. The plasterboard drylining will be installed and then wet plastering will begin. With so many different trades working together, correct social distancing becomes more difficult, which could result in some delays. At the moment, the project is slightly ahead of schedule and Midas have amended their plans the to take this into account.

Middlefields House is scheduled for completion in summer next year.

Please pray that the project remains on schedule, that the workers on site are protected from harm, including from Covid-19 infection, that wise decisions are taken when plans have to be altered and that the Lord will be preparing the way for people to live and work at Middlefields House. Please give thanks that the project has not been delayed by the pandemic, and that progress has been smooth, with good working relationships between Pilgrims' Friend Society, the contractors and the designers.
