Independent living

For practising Christians

About Pilgrim Gardens

Pilgrim Gardens is an award-winning independent living housing scheme built in 2013 in Evington, Leicester, providing retired Christians with a home within a safe and secure community. With 31 apartments, Pilgrim Gardens offers a mixture of one- and two-bedroom flats available for lease or rent.

Pilgrim Gardens is a community of evangelical Christians from a range of traditions, Independent living worshipping together, fellowshipping together and sharing refreshments together. We also enjoy a variety of social activities including trips out, special celebrations, eating, exercising, and singing together.

Purpose-built apartments

All our apartments at Pilgrim Gardens include:

  • Underfloor heating throughout
  • A hallway with built in cupboards
  • A generously sized wet room with grab rails, seating, and Jack and Jill entrances
  • A bedroom with built in cupboards, large enough for a double bed
  • A lounge with several electricity sockets, a tv point and a landline socket
  • A kitchen with ample storage cupboards, a built-in cooker and hob and spaces for washing machine, fridge freezer and a dishwasher or tumble dryer
  • A ‘Winter Garden’ with bi-fold doors enabling you to use the space as an extension to either your indoor or outdoor space.

These apartments are set in communal gardens which residents can choose to take on as much or as little gardening as they would like with gardening troughs and borders.

Out and about in the local area

Pilgrim Gardens backs onto 44 acres of public parkland, Evington Park while the historical village of Evington also boasts a village green and arboretum, as well as a
well-stocked village centre just 400m away with a few grocery shops, a chemist, a post office, a library, a café, a fish and chip shop, restaurants and a pub.

The closest doctors’ surgery is 300m away, with a post box and a bus stop 200m away. There are about five buses an hour going into the city of Leicester and the journey takes about 15 minutes.

For those who are able there is a vast choice of local churches and many of the local ministers and church leaders support Pilgrim Gardens with pastoral visits and taking our morning devotions. Some of the local churches offer activities for retired people during the week such as fellowship meals with a Bible talk and day trips, which many of our residents take advantage of.

A little extra support

For those with extra needs there are care agencies locally who serve the residents here at Pilgrim Gardens, and if the need is cleaning, laundry or shopping then Pilgrim Gardens offers a series of Wellbeing Packages.

Just next door is the Evington Home, a residential care home also run by Pilgrims’ Friend Society, which offers the opportunity for spouses to remain close to each other, even though their needs may differ considerably.

If the time comes for you to need 24-hour care, moving into Evington Home makes such a significant life change simple and stress-free.
