A warm welcome when you need a little extra support

Whether you're recovering from an illness, your usual carer is taking a well-earned break, or you're simply exploring what care home life could be like, respite care offers the support, comfort and peace of mind you need.

A period of respite at one of our care homes means you'll become part of a welcoming community where you're known, valued and cared for as an individual.

Whether you're staying for a few days or a few weeks, our community is here to help you feel safe, comfortable and supported.

What is respite care?

Respite care is short-term care in a residential care home. It provides professional support for older people who need temporary assistance with daily living, nursing care or rehabilitation.

A respite stay can last from a few days to several weeks and includes everything you'd expect from permanent residential care:

  • Comfortable accommodation

  • Freshly prepared meals

  • Personal care and support

  • Medication management

  • Activities and companionship

  • Beautiful shared spaces and gardens

  • 24-hour support from experienced care teams

Who is respite care for?

Respite care can help in many different situations.

Recovery after illness or hospital stay

If you're not quite ready to return home after a hospital stay or illness, respite care provides a safe environment where you can regain confidence and strength before returning home.

Giving family carers a break

Caring for someone you love is rewarding, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Respite care allows family carers to rest, recover, go on holiday or attend to other responsibilities, knowing their loved one is receiving compassionate, professional care.

Trying care before making a longer-term decision

Many people choose a respite stay to experience life in one of our care homes before deciding whether permanent care is right for them. It offers the opportunity to get to know our team, enjoy our community and experience everyday life without making a long-term commitment.

Extra support during changing circumstances

Sometimes life simply becomes more challenging for a while. Whether due to illness, changes at home or unexpected events, respite care offers flexible support exactly when it's needed.

Dementia care

At Pilgrims’ Friend Society, we combine best practice in the field of dementia care with the spiritual understanding that those living with dementia can enjoy a happy and fulfilled life.

Our approach to dementia care is founded on the “Feelings Matter Most” framework and looks past a person’s immediate physical needs to their essence and spirit.
