Over the past few weeks, Penny, a carer at Bridgemead, has been supporting 'family members' (those who live with us) as they have worked together to create a collaborative seascape artwork. The project has encouraged creativity, conversation and connection, providing everyone involved with the opportunity to share ideas, explore their artistic talents and create something meaningful to be enjoyed throughout the home.
The seascape has come together piece by piece, with different colours, textures and ideas combining to form a unique work of art inspired by the beauty, tranquillity and memories associated with the coast.
Penny, who has supported the project, said: “this was our weekly project that took place on a Thursday afternoon for activities as this is the day most volunteers come in. Firstly we did the seaweed which we printed then our family members painted it. I then cut it out and stuck it to the blue base background. Then on a Wednesday with day club included we stencilled the border of the undersea project. All the fish were painted by our family members and if they couldn't do it they told someone who could what colour they wanted the fish to be. One of our family members made a paper mache jellyfish. We strung buttons on pipe cleaners for the tentacles to make it look like a jellyfish. My husband made a few 3D fish and a turtle and the family members really liked painting those."
Family members involved in the project have also enjoyed being part of the experience.
Annie, a family member said: “I helped with the seaweed. It has been such a lovely thing to be involved in and a wonderful way to spend time together as a team.”
At Bridgemead, moments like these show how creativity can inspire connection and create lasting memories for everyone involved.
Bridgemead is a 32-bed Christian residential care home in central Bath, caring for older people who require personal care or nursing. We are a home-from-home where 'family members', as we call those who live with us, are cherished and enabled to live fruitful lives in a loving Christian community.
Our home is ‘dual-registered’ and provides round-the-clock nursing care as required. There is a registered nurse on duty at all times as well as the registered manager.
Rooms are situated over four floors, with eight rooms on each floor. Three floors have en-suite rooms. Each floor has a communal dining/living room with kitchenette. There is a shared WiFi connection for residents. Rooms do not have a television or telephone.
