A delightful visit to Home Kitchen

Tyler Sewell-Nicholas

Home Kitchen is the café located at Strathclyde House, our housing scheme in Skelmorlie

On a recent work trip to Strathclyde House, I took the opportunity to visit Home Kitchen which is our on-site café at Strathclyde House. I figured, why not put my insider bias aside and see what all the fuss was about? Spoiler: it was well worth it.

The café is a cosy, welcoming spot on Shore Road in Skelmorlie, open daily from 10am to 4pm, with stunning views over the Firth of Clyde, perfect for pretending you’re on holiday while you’re on a work break. As Communications and Social Media Officer for Pilgrims’ Friend Society, I’m often out visiting our homes and schemes, gathering stories to share and finding out what life is like with us. I tried their signature fish and chips, which were fantastic. The fish was perfectly crispy and flaky, and the chips hit that sweet spot of fluffy yet crispy. Honestly, it was so good I might start calling it “work fuel.” To finish, I indulged in the coffee and cake offer for just £4.95. The coffee was smooth and rich, and the cake was moist and generously sized, the kind of sweet treat that makes you wonder if you should’ve ordered two.

What really stood out was the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly team, who clearly take pride in making everyone feel at home. Plus, kids eat free with a paying adult, which is great news for anyone with little ones who wants to eat well without emptying their wallet. The view from the dining area, overlooking the water and passing boats, adds a peaceful vibe.

It was great to see the care and thoughtfulness that goes into everything — from the food to the service and even small touches like that kids-eat-free deal. I’m proud to be connected to a place that offers such a warm welcome and delicious food, and I’d happily recommend Home Kitchen to anyone visiting the area.

If you find yourself in this beautiful corner of West Scotland, this is a gem not to be missed.

Evie, Home Kitchen Manager: “The thing I enjoy the most is getting to know the residents and visitors that come here and their life stories.”
