The event was organised by Simon, the home’s Activities Community Engagement (ACE) Facilitator, who carefully planned a scenic route through the local village. Staff members and their relatives, including Simon, Henry, Caroline, Adie, Clare, and Taurai, took part and chose to complete between three to six laps. They were cheered on by our family members (those who live with us), staff, and visitors, creating a wonderful sense of support and excitement.

“It was about giving our family members the chance to enjoy the buzz of a community event, like a marathon, right on their doorstep,” said Simon.

Adding a heartwarming start to the run, the Finborough and Buxhall Under Fives came along to wave off the runners. Their joyful energy set the tone for the day and brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

Family members sat outside the home, flags in hand, offering encouragement and enjoying the sunshine. Eda, 73, and Louise, 85, were among those soaking in the festive atmosphere.

“It’s lovely to sit outside today and watch the runners go by,” said Eda.

“You really feel part of something,” Louise added. “Even though I wasn’t running, just being here, seeing everyone come together and cheering them on makes you feel connected. It’s been such a joyful day.”

The event raised over £500 to support future activities at the home, reinforcing the spirit of unity and shared purpose that defined the afternoon.

“I wanted to run so that I could raise money for our family members,” said Henry proudly.

As the final runner crossed the finish line to warm applause, it was clear: this was more than just a run — it was a moment of shared joy, connection, and community for all.
