Life at Emmaus House

Fulfilled Living

In every one of our homes and schemes we express God’s love through compassion and care that helps people live life to the full - fulfilled living.

Emmaus House has an active social life in which residents can take part, or follow their own pursuits. We appreciate that each resident has their own individual interests, hobbies and pastimes, and we endeavour to support our residents to maintain this important part of their lives. Our residents are encouraged to lead the lifestyle that they choose, doing as much or as little as they want residents can simply choose to put their feet up with a daily paper (by arrangement) or a good book from the homes’ own collection.

The home employs an Activities Coordinator who is supported by a team of volunteers, providing a range of planned activities or spending time one on one with our residents. Our weekly programme includes activities such as arm chair exercises, quizzes, crafts, walks in the Valley Gardens, pet therapy, board games, talks etc. Those who are unable to join with the activities are visited in their rooms by volunteers. A hairdresser visits once a week.

As a Christian community, both residents and staff of Emmaus House meet daily for devotional times. There is a Sunday service, monthly communion service and regular hymn singing. Emmaus House also benefits from the active involvement of supporters from local evangelical churches, who not only visit regularly to take devotions, services, prayer meetings, bible studies and communion services, but also provide pastoral support to the residents and staff. There are a number of churches of various denominations within easy reach of the home.

Around the Home

Emmaus House has 22 rooms, all with en-suite facilities, television and telephone points. There are several bathrooms with assisted baths and a walk-in shower. The main lounge is on the first floor (accessed by passenger lift), and the dining room is on the ground floor, both overlooking the Valley Gardens.

We enjoy showing visitors around our home, but if this is the purpose of your visit we request that you call and arrange a suitable time so we can allocate a member of staff to show you around and answer any questions. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit at any time during the day, and there is the opportunity to purchase a meal in the home if they wish to do so, by prior arrangement.
